In health, deaf people are faced with medical professionals who cannot sign and do not provide sign language interpreters, making clear communication of symptoms, diagnoses and prescriptions impossible.
There are no specific vaccines or antiviral treatments against dengue fever. Use of paracetamol to bring down the fever is indicated. Aspirin and related non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIs) such as ibuprofen should be avoided.
Paracetamol
The app should allow the pharmacist to communicate with a customer about how to take a drug.
A QRCode or barcode attached to a prescription, encoding the set of fixed instructions, can be used to link to signed video(s) of the instructions for administering the drug. Later, the customer can scan a QR code to have the instructions repeated.
Instructions can be customised for a prescription, or standard (as for commonly used drugs like paracetamol).
- Adults and children aged 12 years and over
- Oral administration only.
- 500mg to 1000mg of paracetamol, taken every 4-6 hours, as required.
- Maximum daily dose: 4000mg.
- Do not exceed the stated dose. Should not be used with other paracetamol-containing products.
- Minimum dosing interval: 4 hours.
- Can be taken with or without food.
- Not recommended for children under 12 years of age.
